Bei der ursprünglichen Marmor-Skulptur handelt es sich um eine römische Kopie der Bronzestatue, die im Jahr 220 v. Chr. von Attalos I. aus Pergamon in Auftrag gegeben wurde, um seinen Sieg über die Galater zu ehren.
Es wurde im 16. Jahrhundert bei Ausgrabungen in der Villa Ludovisi wiederentdeckt und von Michelangelo restauriert. Es wurde erstmals 1623 in der Sammlung der mächtigen Familie Ludovisi erwähnt.

The copy is perfect with a great marble finish. The most people don't know the found original figure was a marble sculpture. But today you only can buy bronze copies from the Grand Tour in the beginning of the last century. The marble version you only find in museum, but she is better and to get here.
I have always admired this statue. Being able to get such a great rendering of it is great. Amazing finish, amazing price. The only thing marring the whole experience was the delivery. I lost 2 days earnings instead of one, costing me more than the cost for the statue, but the item itself is great.
