A Marble Plaque of Hermes, Semele and the infant Bacchus, finely finished and polished, and set into a Black and white Marguina marble frame.
The original Relief plaque is in a private collection in London, and attributed to Thomas Banks 1775.
Mercury helped his father, Jupiter, when Bacchus was born. Bacchus was the son of Semele and Jupiter. Semele was the daughter of Cadmus, the brother of Europa, and Harmonia, the daughter of Mars and Venus.
